Hong Kong

About 6:45 pm in Hong Kong hanging out in the hotel after hours of walking around the streets of this amazing city. Myself and a few guys from class, Ian, John, and Silent Hawk walked deeper into the city and found the large shopping district. I was on the hunt for a Canon G10 apparently a hot item here as no one had any left. Hope to score one later on.

This city is intense. Full of people and unique sights. It however oddly doesn’t feel overly forign. Could easily be NYC with a few little changes. Sorta threw me and Ian off guard.

The goal of this trip is unique experiences and mainly food. So far pig intenseins and beef tendions. Of course in noodles. Noodles shops are everywhere naturally, however insanely cheap. Like a bowl of really good noodles is only 3 bucks US. The exchange rate here is so wild, we are all still totally thrown out of the loop.

Communication was a mess the first night. No free wifi, no cellphones, basically totally cut off. We stopped in an electronics store when we set out for the night and it was a small po wow around a few laptops to log onto gmail to send messages home to fill in the parents. A few got cellphones. This ended up starting a trend with most of the crew getting phones to use just while on the trip. At 46 - 60 bucks (depending on who shopped were) for a new phone, a 500 minutes of talk time, why not do it. Now I can call the USA easily and stay in touch with people here in China. Good deal.

After phone we did some more exploring finding a shanty market. I scored a nice military jacket for 26 US and some 4 dollar Wayfarers. Later on me and Ian found some lego knock offs that are just plain awesome.

Right now me and Ian are chilling in the hotel using the hell out of the net SCAD is paying for. This trip as already proved awesome and its only the first day. Tonight should turn out easily as exciting as the whole city shifts gears into something a little different. Photos on Flickr soon too.
